Context for Liberal Arts College Survey

Purpose

Since OSAF has already collected and analyzed requirements from the CSG universities, and conducted a preliminary survey from 22 of the 81 of NITLE colleges we have a pretty good idea about what we have to build into Westwood. (see the document: Chandler for Higher Education that outlines the major requirements we think are required for a Higher Education deployment.)

However, since we have not been working as closely with the NITLE schools as with CSG contacting them this Spring will serve two purposes.

  • First, it will be an opportunity raise awareness at the schools about the Westwood project and communicate our current progress and road map for future developments.
  • Second we hope to gather additional information from the schools to make sure we are not missing something important that would present an obstacle to adoption of Westwood by the colleges.

Background on the Chandler project and the higher education 'Westwood' version

For a quick introduction to the higher education version of Chandler, see the Executive Summary of Chandler's University Requirements document on the OSAF website: http://www.osafoundation.org/University_Requirements_Exec_Summary_2003_05_02.htm

Chandler deployment

If you expect to deploy and support Chandler:

You expect to deploy

Canoga deployed in 2005 will be the institution official standard for e-mail calendar

  un-official, but supported e-mail calendar

would you be interested in being a beta site for Canoga yes no

We're interested in Canoga, but the information on the OSAF website, mail list, Wiki is not sufficient and I need a opportunity to see a presentation on Chandler and ask questions before I can make a decision
Chandler is nice project, but we already have other solutions for e-mail, calendar, contacts and are not interested
Westwood deployed in 2006 will be the institution official standard for e-mail calendar

Would you be interested in migrating users from Outlook/Exchange yes no

If you envision coexistence of Exchange and Westwood for some period of time explain what level of interoperability you would require, e.g. would using Exchange as an IMAP mail server to both Outlook and Chandler clients be sufficient?

Would you be interested in migrating users from Meeting Maker yes no

Would you be interested in migrating users from Corporate Time yes no

  un-official, but supported e-mail calendar

would you be interested in being a beta site for Westwood yes no

We're interested in Westwood, but the information on the OSAF website, mail list, Wiki is not sufficient and I need a opportunity to see a presentation on Chandler and ask questions before I can make a decision
