Resource items
Status Proposal
Motivation A new kind of item that includes Notes, Word documents, Photos, MP3s...Resource items are persistent items that are relatively long-lived and live peaceful lives with comparatively low rate of changes. Things we generally think of as attachments.
Types of Resource items
- Note
- Word documents
- Excel spreadsheets
- Powerpoint presentations
- Images
- Audio
- Video
- Contacts (but they will be their own kind)
What can you do to a Resource item
- Email it / Share it
- Mark it as a task
- Put it on the calendar as a task
- Put it on the calendar as an event? [OI?]
- Mark it as FYI
- Mark it as Needs to be filed
- Set a tickle date
- Label it in the "See also" section
- Chandler keeps track of versions of the resource item and always displays the latest version of the item in the collections where it's been filed
- Chandler maintains a distinction between Sending an update of a resource item and replying to a resource item
UI fallout
- Add resource button in the Mark-up bar: Email, Task, Calendar, Resource
- Add resource as an option when creating a new item
- Replace notes filter with resource filter on the Kind filter bar on the Sidebar
Workflow
- New item
- Click Resource button in Mark-up bar
- Notes field says: Type notes here or DnD resource item here
