Possible Email Archiving Features
This section is for listing all the possible things that an email client might do relating to archiving email messages. OSAF staff will review this list to determine which features should go in which (if any) release(s).
- One-click backup to compressed archive
- Easy import (restore) of compressed archive
- Easy viewing of compressed archive
- Automated archiving (e.g. every month, automatically move messages older than six months to an archive)
- Automated deletion of messages older than specified time (for companies that are concerned about legal discovery)
- Automated backups (i.e. cron jobs)
- Automatic bounce unread messages once they hit a certain age (to provide negative feedback to people who send too many low-priority messages)
- Way for user to easily mark the archiving policy on a message (e.g. "delete after one year")
- Filters to automatically mark the archiving policy on an incoming message
- A way to tag an entire thread (or message) of a mailing list to keep, then automatically delete unmarked mailing list messages when they age past a certain date.
