Using Lightning With Chandler Hub and Chandler Server

Lightning is a calendaring extension for Mozilla Thunderbird. Cosmo has been tested with version 0.7.

Sunbird can publish and subscribe to webcal calendars and can also subscribe to CalDAV calendars. It is expected that CalDAV publishing will come before the 1.0 release.

Publishing a Calendar

  1. Click the Calendar tab in the lower left corner.
  2. Right-click the name of the calendar you wish to publish.
  3. Left-click Publish Calendar.
  4. In the Publishing URL box, enter your home directory URL followed by a filename of your choice to identify the calendar. The filename must end with the .ics extension. An example is http://localhost:8080/cosmo/dav/bcm/Home.ics.
  5. Click the Publish button.
  6. Enter your Cosmo username in the User Name: box.
  7. Enter your Cosmo password in the Password: box.
  8. Optionally, check the Use Password Manager... box.
  9. Click OK to store the file on Cosmo. When the operation is complete, OK is replaced by Close.
  10. Click Close.

Note that Lightning does not remember the URL of the published calendar, and it does not automatically update the published calendar with any changes you make in Sunbird. If you want to update your published calendar, you have to go through all of the above steps again, including entering the Publishing URL.

Subscribing to a Calendar

  1. Click New > Calendar... in the File menu.
  2. The "Create a new calendar" dialog appears.
  3. Select On the Network.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Select CalDAV.
  6. Enter the calendar URL in the Location: box. You can find this URL in the Web UI collection details dialog under Subscribe with: Other... -> CalDAV. See here for more information.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Enter a name in the Name: box to be used as the local name for the subscribed calendar.
  9. Choose a color from the Color: picker.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Enter your Cosmo username in the User Name: box.
  12. Enter your Cosmo password in the Password: box.
  13. Optionally, check the Use Password Manager... box.
  14. Click OK.
  15. Click Finish.
  16. An entry for the new local version of the calendar is added to the Calendars tab, and the events are displayed on your calendar.
