  • Discuss the idea of having a Partners program, similar in goals and scope with the Mozilla partners program.

Organizational Issues

Establishing a group of advisors [1] was suggested in the Mellon grant proposal. The WAC has been formed to meet that need. The current plan is:
  • The Westwood Advisory Council role is to review and recommend the technical direction, functionality, and features of the Westwood roadmap as well as IP/business/and licensing issues pertinent to Higher Education.
  • The diversity of the Board is intended to ensure that the majority of the market envisioned for the Higher Education releases of Chandler will be adequately served. In this case the "market" means both end-users of the product and developers creating business (profit and non-profit) opportunities around Westwood.
  • The Council will meet three times a year coincident with the CSG meetings. The minutes of the meeting will be publicly available. The WAC meetings will include representation from OSAF management.
  • Recommendations of the WAC will be given appropriate consideration, but decisions will be made by OSAF staff with oversight by the OSAF Board of Directors.

__[1]_excerpt from the Mellon Grant Proposal, p. 16 The OSAF Advisory Board -- OSAF will create a Board of Advisors with representatives from the major constituencies for Canoga and Westwood including members from CSG universities and NITLE Colleges. The board’s role will be to review development plans and progress and to facilitate interaction between OSAF and the target ‘customers’ for Chandler. We expect these activities to include design reviews, coordinating related collaborative development by the institutions, arranging beta test sites, and other joint activities between the institutions and OSAF.

It is understood that over the two-and-a-half year development period for Westwood the needs of the CSG universities may change from those used to derive the original specifications. OSAF is committed to delivering the best possible product and will be open to changes in requirements. In order to facilitate any such changes OSAF and CSG will commit to the following:

  1. In addition to the normal reports on Chandler progress available to the public, OSAF will send a representative(s) to the regular CSG meetings to report upon and discuss progress on Chandler.
  2. OSAF will be proactively consultative with representatives from CSG in order to align CSG needs and Chandler design goals and to prevent schisms between the OSAF plan-of-record for Westwood and possible revised requirements of CSG. In the unlikely scenario that there are serious disagreements regarding the future directions of Westwood, OSAF will proactively bring the issue to CSG before deciding upon a course of action.
  3. CSG should establish a formal process and designate official representatives who will be the point of contact to communicate the collective wishes of CSG to OSAF.
