DRAFT - Summary of Usage Notes and Bugs ( March - June 2005 )

I recently started a new notebook and decided to go through the old one and write down all the bugs/usage notes/feature requests that I have jotted down over the course of the past 2-3 months. Most of the content below is already incorporated in the 0.6 specs or logged as bugs. This is intended primarily as an exercise to consolidate all the feedback and to do a quick check that they have been addressed in some form.

Notes

• Work on some solution for a screen sharing mechanism to be used for demos. This will allow people who are remote (board meetings, staff meetings) to both view and participate in demos.
• Deleting a calendar event is slow
• Performance, download footprint, memory footprint
• Ascii text log on client
• Sharing log - terse, verbose mode
• URL based sharing - some people have readonly some people have readwrite access - no need to track who have viewed/accepted.
• Cut and paste URL
• Ability to share calendar with a set of people.
• Importing 3000 event calendar is slow.
• Server work - view my published calendars.
• Default setup for out server - support for other servers.
• Sending an email is slow.
• Imported events should not go into All.
• Easy way to get started with Chandler sharing account.
• Pre-configure client to go talk to the server
• WebUI^? to create an account
• How does Chandler know to use the accout.
• All collection goals for 0.6 not clear.
• Import/Subscribe to a calendar from exchange.
• Start time for app is slow.
• Bringing up detail view is slow.
• Import a large calendar.
• Resize divider between summary and detail view.
• Good logging mechanism - log background events Chandler.log
• View using test menu.
• Tabbing out of field in the detail view does a commit. If you do anything to leave a field it commits.
• Display multiple distinct calendars/collections is different colors
• Overlay 2 calendars.
• Choose a calendar to be selected (in front).
• In-place editing
  • Bar on left doesn't look right (too much contrast)
  • When you double-click to edit in place, the font size changes - should be the same as regular mode
• Month label on calendar is clipped.
• Today - not as intuitive visually as a date on the calendar - not iCal style. People have to do math.
• Selected item is grey - better visual appearance of a selected item.
• Creating a collection that has nothing - should be grey - should go into name editing mode.
• Detail view on Mac has inconsistent formatting - using different fonts.
• Event status
  • plain = confirmed
  • line on left if free or confirmed
  • most of the time we will have confirmed - what is the ui for fyi or tentative.
• Default theme Mac scroll bar color clashes with calendar color.
• Arrows on mac don't look good - better on PC
• Event with 10 min duration doesn't look good on Mac - work on small lozenge visual.
• Maintain continuity of usage
  • Repository - increase convenience if we don't have to manually blow away repository.
  • We would enhance the usability if we had some kind of popup.
  • Do this automatically or have a default set to do this.
• Create profile on the WD server of saved collections.
• Record under directory that you have created this.
• Access resources to subscribe
• Way to backup data
• Menu item to show all publishes - checkboxes to subscribe or import.
• Saturation for selected - doesn't look right.
• More emphasis on selected item.
• Bug in day view - banding effect with colors.
• Unselected tentative state not apparent.
• Drag an event to the edge - lose the anchor when you move into detail view then go back.
• No way to specify or see from the detail view what calendar the event is on.
• Day/Week selector is confusing - not obvious that week is something you can click on.
• How do we deal with existing published shares if we blow away the repository.
  • Need a workflow to re-establish these.
  • Consider file open type dialog where you can browse - default to server in account settings.
• Search of events is a requirement for usable calendar
  • Add a table to the bottom
  • This can disappear when we are done.
• Awkward to enter a URL for sharing demos.
  • Most of the URL doesn't change.
  • Can we consider auto-completion type feature.
  • Or default with path of sharing server (type in filename)
  • Or file open style.
• Resubscription bug - can't delete
  • Sub/delete then sub/delete again.
• Run 2 versions of Chandler on the same machine.
• Multiple item selection
  • Deleting, cut & paste.
  • Drag and drop.
• Plan for keyboard support
• Synchronization logging - 0.6 goals not well defined
