UI/Design issues for Scooby 0.1 release:

(See my notes in pink for upcoming release)

Should be centered on a working day as soon as you're logged in. 'Welcome' note is front and center.
For current 0.1, will move 'Welcome' note at 1AM just so users have a quick idea that events are displayed on the calendar.

Color non-working hours/working hours slightly differently and default display size to 8AM - 6PM.
Future release, User should be able to set preference for working hours.

Indication in re-sizing events on the calendar

  • It's difficult to know where the resize zones are on an event in the calendar. Perhaps make slightly larger target areas for resize (top and bottom) and usea slightly darker tint perhaps to signify the top and bottom are draggable areas.
  • Change the cursor, slightly highlight to resize.
  • When dragging the event, display a tool tip to set the time, as the event is being dragged.
Investigate a mouse over to change pointer color?

Indication of new event at the bottom too subtle when working from the calendar.

  • Basically when I click on an event in the calendar, I'm not aware that the information at the bottom has changed as well.
  • There just isn't enough cues that the event is being edited. Need better focus on the bottom. ie. black border
  • Currently the event highlights at the bottom has a title, perhaps to bold event?
Investigate a processing animation?

Buttons web convention, heavy horizontal bar, title of the event
Add a title bar in an event and move save and close button next to it

  • Placement of delete/save button:
    Placement of save close button

Timeline on the left

  • Times are currently on all the dates, ideally for a future release there would be a choice of where you would like to see the time. This may be set in preferences.
  • Once the timeline is on the left, the time may need to appear in the tool tip when expanding and contracting the event .
  • Visual feedback for what the work-day hours are
Will be implemented for the next milestone, ideally for a future release you may be able to set in preferences. There would be a choice of where you would like to see times displayed along with the 'work days' hours.

All-day events on top of each other

  • @time events with text
Current events are stacked on top of each other. Next milestone is to stagger the events.

Navigation arrows look like month-to-month

  • Show week of month or next week buttons -- its not clear that the left and right arrows navigate weeks, instead of months.
  • Moving by week view (additional label) opposed to month view.
Will need to place arrow away from the month label

Time box needs to be big enough
This is a font issues and will be fixed for 0.1. Produced on the mac mainly

Perhaps put a more prominent title to distinguish a selected event from a new event.
Selected events are different in color. Will revisit color palettes in future release.

Display description of event on calendar entry, not just title (perhaps as a tooltip as space may be tight).
For future release, can also revisit information on tool time, what should be displayed, how much text should be displayed etc. in the tool tips.
