Status Writing up notes after meeting with Mitch about timezones. Will eventually be incorporated into Timezone spec, which is being written by Lisa.

Use cases

  • User is traveling and would like to see office meetings (in Home timezone) on the calendar wrt Travel timezone.
  • User is managing a calendar for someone who is travelling in a different timezone.
  • User is scheduling a meeting with someone in a different timezone and would like to be able to see their calendar in the Remote timezone in order to pick a time that works for attendees in both timezones
  • User receives a request for a meeting in a different timezone and would like to see the meeting on their calendar wrt Home timezone.

Scenarios

  • Assigning timezones
  • User can only set 1 timezone per all calendars
  • User can set 1 timezone per event
  • [OI?] Can users set different timezones for different instances of a recurring event?
  • The timezone pulldown should display 2 example cities for each timezone.

  • Appearance
  • Event lozenge in the summary calendar view ALWAYS displays start time in the timezone assigned to the particular event
  • Event lozenge appears in the summary calendar view time grid according to the timezone assigned to all calendars
  • ie. User assigns PST to the calendar view and assigns EST to a particular event. In the summary calendar view: an event happening at 3:00PM EST appears in the 12:00PM timeslot in the calendar view grid with a start time of 3:00PM EST. In the detail view: the event start time is: 3:00PM EST
  • The event timezone should only appear on the event lozenge in the summary calendar view IF it does NOT match the timezone assigned to all calendars

UI elements

  • Timezone preferences dialog
  • Timezone field in the detail view
  • Timezone selector in the summary calendar view
