Notes

Notes from my discussions with Deb Richardson at Mozilla

  • trying to reconstruct this from memory - my notes were in the stolen laptop

  • been working on developer.mozilla.org for about a year now
  • they have 10 localizations/wikis
  • The most important thing is getting the categories right. The Mozilla categories
  • They use an entirely separate wiki for product planning
  • Show examples of how you want it to be and people will follow that
  • most of the content is done by other people. Most of those people are Mozilla developers
  • she is working full time on the developer portal
  • if she could have done something different, she would have started earlier
  • She feels that having someone with writing skills is preferable to having someone with information architecture skills
  • Deb worked at Linuxcare, and had worked w/ some of the Mozilla folks in previous jobs'
  • It is important to have someone with some wiki tech skills
  • They are using mediawiki due to adoption and continuing development. They have done one piece of custom code, for breadcrumbs
  • Mozilla is getting a google search appliance for their wikis
