Bare Bones UI Proposal for Preview

Motivation

  • Mock-up the bare minimum UI affordances we need to satisfy Casual Collaborator workflows for Preview
  • Minimal changes to existing UI
  • Minimal addition of new UI elements
  • Address screen real estate issues introduced by adding the Dashboard table (it's too wide!!!) with minimal changes to the UI

Main views

  • Dashboard
  • Calendar

Chrome elements

  • Preview share banner area: Subscribe with Cosmo, Sign-up for an account, Subscribe with Chandler, iCal, as a feed
  • Logged in area: Welcome message, username, timezone display, Settings, Help, Logout
  • View selector to toggle between Dashboard and Calendar views
  • Collection pulldown
  • Collection 'information' button to:
    • Inspect details of collection
    • Subscribe to collection with Chandler, iCal and as a Feed
    • Remove collection from your account, aka Unsubscribe
  • Detail view with mark-up bar

Dashboard elements, as they pertain to the Chrome

  • For more details about the Dashboard, see: StrawpersonProposalForSimplifiedCosmoDashboard
  • Reserve the top row of the Dashboard for 'Creating new items': Users click in the row to create a new item. Keyboard focus is immediately shifted to the form fields in the Detail view. Items are removed from the Dashboard the same way they are from the calendar today, via the Remove button in the Detail view.

Calendar elements, as they pertain to the Chrome

  • Sidebar
    • Jump-to date
    • Mini-cal
  • Month header, e.g. September 2006
  • Back and forward buttons to navigate through the calendar

What's missing

  • Ability to add collections
  • Dynamic detail view that can resize or appear and disappear
  • Persistent sidebar that displays collections in a list
  • Preview pane for mini-calendar
  • Busybars in mini-cal

Sneak peak: View and edit the share without logging in

BB_Preview_Share.png

  • Alternate subscribe banner
  • Only graphics would be: +cosmo, Sign-up, IT'S FREE, Chandler, iCal and Feed icons

Login to add collection to your Cosmo account

Signup for a new account (still need to mock these up)

  • Sign-up
  • Wait for confirmation email with a link to return to Cosmo to confirm sign-up
  • User returns to Cosmo to confirm sign-up
  • Open issue Can we tell that the user was trying to subscribe to a share and redirect them back to the share to subscribe? According to bcm, this would be extra work. BB_Sign_up.png

Subscribe to share with Chandler

Alternate: Subscribe with Chandler - Dialog option

  • Issues
    • Can't rename the collection in Cosmo before subscribing to the collection in Chandler
    • Subscribe with Chandler is the only way to access URLs and instructions for subscribing with iCal and as a Feed
