Branding (Pieter)

  • Pieter walked through how we got to our brand focus
  • A brand is for our entire solution - what a user thinks about when they see what we are trying to build
  • Step #1: The main focus - what is the theme for our brand
  • Important when you are building a brand for it to sync up with the fundamental values of the organization
  • Brand focus goal
    • Look at a theme that we could adopt that would be consistent for our message
    • The message focuses on differentiation, relevance, longevity
    • Derived from a bunch of brand association research
    • Came up with several alternatives and picked on
  • Brand focus: I use this because of how I feel about the product and people who are using it...
  • Next Steps:
    • Positioning statements - several for different contexts and people
    • Brand names
    • Logos
    • Other creative look and feel elements
  • We choose this because we think it aligns with our philosophy better
  • OSAF is just not about the product it's about the way we work and other ways we can make an impact.
  • Feature specific messages are sort of transient
  • More details are available at.... http://wiki.osafoundation.org/bin/view/Projects/BrandingCurrentStatus

  • Questions:
    • Ted: explain what pro-social means
    • It provides benefit to a wide range of people, philanthropic term.
