All Hands March 4 2004

1. PyCon -- March 23-26. Ted and Jeffrey Harris are running a Chandler repository development sprint, hopefully we'll get to know some Python developers and they will get to know the Chandler repository. Mitch is also giving the keynote.

2. wxWindows. The project has been renamed itself wxWidgets. Chandler will shortly be making the transition to the latest version of wxWidgets. There will be some build changes where Mark will take the lead, and some API changes where Jed will take the lead. We will start the transition after the milestone next Tuesday. Once this transition is done and we see what the new version looks like, we'll figure out what else Chandler needs from wxWidgets.

3. Design Update. Mimi gave a high level update on what the design team has been up to, especially the work addressing Chandler's ability to organize information of different types into a single view. Design focus is what people need to do in their lives, not on how software generally works. One change in the design process is to get the design group working with the apps group much earlier in the process, starting from when there is a working design proposal, long before there is a pretty-final proposal.

4. 0.4 Planning. We're in the middle of identifying the issues; surfacing the inter-group issues; then getting the right people together to decide the scope of effort on inter-group efforts for 0.4. For example, we're looking at PKI to determine what might be an appropriate scope for this effort in 0.4. Heikki has done a lot of work on the back-end. But before we can say we're committed to doing something we need to see what the design group thinks about how to expose this to the end-user. So the process will be to identify the people to work on each inter-group issue, have the groups do some work, come back to an inter-group discussion and iterate on the appropriate scope of effort for 0.4.

This will involve every working group, and will result in a plan with agreed upon deliverables. We'll do a fair amount more up-front planning than we did for 0.3.

Overall goal: make Canoga experimentally useful for certain tasks. 0.4 Planning doc maintained by Chao, it represents the current thinking about goals.
