Platform Team Meeting 5 September 2005

Agenda

  • QOTF: Should we have another "sprint" this year? What activities would be useful in person?
  • alpha4
  • dogfood bugs/feedback

Notes

  • Q: sprint?
    • Grant: ambivalent. People seem to be chugging along pretty well sprint free.
    • Andi: ambivalent. Why disturb what is working well now, gotta focus.
    • PJE: wait until we can have liquids on planes again. no pressing need.
    • Morgen, Bear, Katie: agree with above
  • alpha4
    • EIM proposal
      • Morgen: what are the next steps? No comments or questions on the EIM proposal? Silence is deafening.
      • Bear: questions are in places where we don't have enough information, wait and see
      • PJE: is this the right thing? will be pretty involved to build, want to get it right
        • how does it look from an application programmer point of view. Examples easy enough to use?
        • will sharing system work with that? feasible? (Morgen: Yes)
  • dogfood bugs, feedback, missing tracebacks
    • dogfooders are trying to use alpha3 or trunk, running into problems that don't get logged as bugs or don't get addressed
      • missing diagnostic information to hunt the problems down
      • send feedback but don't log bugs
    • chandler logs are missing tracebacks
      • warnings/errors seen in the logs with no associated traceback
      • dogfooders (sheila/mimi/etc) see tracebacks in feedback window that never show up in logs
      • tests fail and no traceback is seen in the log
    • Andi filed Bug:6618, currently owned by John, about OnIdle? exceptions that don't get logged
    • Bug:6618 doesn't explain the feedback window case
      • Katie has seen this, will file a bug with an example and assign it to Andi
    • Heikki has a task to scan through feedback logs and log bugs for traces/errors with no bug
      • this is not a long term strategy -- hope to automate this eventually
    • Morgen and Andi asked for a feature where the feedback window gives the user some sort of ticket they could attach to the bug, to help the developer track down the appropriate log on the server
  • log file issues raised
    • privacy issues: passwords, tickets, username, etc.
    • twisted.log and chandler.log being seperate is a pain. Grant has a patch to unify the log files.

Status

Katie

Morgen

  • Progress
    • Enhanced the save/restore feature to handle IMAP/POP/SMTP
    • Added "Test > Logging > Logging level" menu
    • Fixed bug 5758 Timeouts not being caught in the test sharing account function
    • Added a callback mechanism for processing inbound items
    • Fixed bug 6608 (Error subscribing to freebusy .ifb urls containing tickets)
    • Fixed bug 6465 (Resubscribing to a share using a different ticket takes on the permissions of the new ticket)
    • Fixed bug 5791 (Exporting a collection to .ics will be aborted if there are no events in the collection)
    • Fixed bug 5792 (Make collection names "filesystem safe" when exporting .ics files)
  • Plan
    • Continue fixing alpha4 bugs
    • Discuss next steps for EIM with pje

PJE

    • EIM discussions w/Morgen and Brian Moseley
    • Python 2.5 generator finalization discussions
    • EIM API Proposal draft, discussions
    • Fixed bug 6585 (an issue with parcel initialization)
    • Worked w/Andi on ConstantEnumeration addition to the repository and schema API
    • Helped Morgen and Andi track down Kind initialization problems and race conditions
    • Review Grant's stamping-as-annotation work and send comments
    • Worked out with Andi a possible solution to the increasing overhead and complexity in repository descriptor/cache management to deal with schema changes caused by increased use of annotations
    • Some work on setuptools 0.6c2
  • Plan
    • Implement EIM API?
    • observer and computed attributes for annotations? (or integrate Grant's work on "Calculated" attrs from stamping-as-annotation branch?)
    • setuptools 0.6c2

Grant

  • Progress
    • Feedback to ErnestoRivera on contacts parcel write-up.
    • Ongoing stamping-as-annotations implementation, including work with TravisVachon to get his imapserver parcel working.
