Decision making, communications

• This is a point that surfaced through Lakiba's interviews
• Case study: the migration issue
  • Identifying a driver was key to get the discussion move to a decision
  • Was more productive to get out of email and into meetings
  • Some issues though should be discussed online in an open forum (not true of all issues)
  • We didn't identify an original "plan of records" so that the discussion can focus on changes on that plan
• Driver is sometimes not always the person who owns the final decision, this is confusing in some cases
• Driver needs to maintain objectivity so the group gets to a decision, so in that sense, the driver "makes" the decision (calls the decision reached)
• Feeling that consensus is not really the way things are decided, indeed, it's not the way we are making decisions, we have a set of decision makers / owners / drivers on some areas
• Driver/decision maker needs to acknowledge the disagreeing voices so that those don't feel they are simply ignored
• Identify stake holders (people in a role in the implementation) from other contributors
• Next action: bring up the process to the staff meeting, get something written in the governance (if not already)
