Operations group meeting notes for 2007-03-27

Attendees: Heikki, Sheila, Katie, Philippe, Aparna, Jared, Ted

  • Interns
    • Philippe has been reviewing intern applications. Some current counts of applications were given, but were missed by this note-taker.
    • Summer of code: The shortened Google timeframe for applications may be contributing to not-entirely focused applications.

  • Reviews
    • We had originally said to put off review until after Preview.
    • With Preview slipping, it's not realistic to keep putting it off.
    • We're looking at end of April, end of May.
    • Process includes:
      • Pick peer reviewers
      • Write peer reviews
      • Self reviews
      • Manager reviews
      • In-person reviews
    • Want to avoid scheduling review steps during times when teams have project deliverables.
    • Cosmo team during late April, early May will be otherwise occupied with release.
    • PPD prefer to due earlier, like end of April. Same for QA.

  • Lakiba ran some interviews with people within OSAF late last year.
    • She recently provided summary feedback to Katie.
    • Themes observed included decision making and process. Katie will be summarizing for discussion at the ops-wg level.

  • Conferences, travel, and budget
    • Launch party
      • We've been planning a launch party. The idea includes bringing remote people on-site.
      • The party was underbudgeted, as number of people off-site has increased, and per-person budget was low.
      • Philippe will review our budget actuals to see how much money is left.
    • Conferences
      • Original plan included: 6 people for Calconnect, 2 Etech, 1 WWDC, 1 CSG, 4 OSCON, 2 ApacheCon?.
      • QA is looking at the Google testing conference.
      • Conferences fall into at least 2 different categories: OSAF promotion, and professional development
      • CSG has both a May and September date coming up. September seems a better time to participate, so as to have Chandler products already released.
      • Google conference is fine for QA to participate, but travel and lodging won't be covered by OSAF during this year of increased OSAF promotion.

  • Preview
    • Going to blog about schedule adjustment
    • We'll work to move to a more regular blogging schedule. We'll work to blog at milestones, and track them on the Preview countdown meeting.

  • Staff meeting demos
