OSAF Operations Group Meeting, August 8th, 2006

Scooby/Cosmo Hiring

Cosmo Sprint Week

  • Priscilla organizing events for Sprint Week (social events)
    • Should we include everyone in these events?
    • Games night everyone, Dinner: just the people in the sprint
    • Schwag (T-Shirts, Hats, etc.)
      • Hats on order. (Hats for everyone)
      • Mitch quotes Wayne's World about Schwag
      • Hand out next thursday at lunch

WWDC

  • Session started at 10:30am
  • Jeffrey and Grant are demoing during the session.
  • iCal Server is only included with Leopard Server release.
    • ACL's are supported
    • includes over 500 unit test cases for CalDAV. Could be used to help with QA for Cosmo.
    • Will it be used with .Mac? Not sure.
    • Performance is about the same as Cosmo.. not db, using FileSystem.
  • To Do Lists
    • TextControl? seems to support turning text into system wide todo.
    • Similar in initial impression to stamping.
    • Interesting thing: validating some of our ideas. (slight net positive)
    • Still no one is doing a cross-platform open solution.
    • What is Apple's level of commitment to building an open source community
    • Unclear at this point. We'll have to see what they do.
      • One note: what level of CalDAV support does iCal now require?
      • Similar ideas are floating around in the industry and stamping is getting validation.
      • The TODO System API could be useful for Chandler Integration.

Release Management

  • We'll defer this one week to let Philippe get involved.

Wikipedia Conference

  • Mitch gave a brief update on the Wikipedia conference.
  • Tools continue to evolve to deal with vandalism and maintaining the wikipedia.
  • Community continues to evolve and grow.
  • John mentioned the write up of wikipedia in the book "The Long Tail" (by the editor of Wired)
