Operations Group Meeting Notes - July 25th 2006

Hiring Discusion

Interns

  • Intern presentations (whole office) on Aug 10th
  • Philippe coordinating this

Email/Thunderbird development (Katie)

  • Chris - idea of extending thunderbird to do some stamping type work
  • Building a thunderbird extension that would do things with thunderbird emails that would cause them to show up in Chandler stamped
  • Some proposal ideas
  • Not discussing the details in this meeting
  • Should we be thinking about this - what resources should we be putting on it
  • Fits into the "bridging the gap" scenarios
  • How many people use thunderbird/
  • Could be a prototype with email integration - perhaps we can extend this
  • Might be strategic - mozilla project
  • Osaf resources longterm - build an email client in chandler
  • If we wanted to pursue - who would work on this? Someone on the apps team ie: bkirsch
  • Possible help from foxmarks
  • Worth some brain cycles and exploration

  • Mitch made a comment about the storyboard review for chandler on Monday - some set of features in the short-term that are pretty powerful
  • Email storyboards - PPD investment to explore the scenarios more clearly
  • Maybe we can wind up which features are really critical - then everything else
  • What is critical will be treated differently from everything else - where does this fall in the critical/not critical line
  • Are we so tightly focussed on our plan - can we accommodate other stuff for investigation?
  • Bridging the gap - meeting what users are really using right now
  • Mail.app has pluggins
  • Maybe the point is not to do the ultimate one - we can do a testbed - prototype as Philippe suggested.

WWDC (Katie)

  • We are going to be doing a demo at WWDC - Grant/Jeffrey

Meeting/list culture revisited (Katie)

  • We should have an official note taker and IRC watcher for staff meetings.
  • We could decide in the Ops team meeting on Tues who will do it on Thurs
  • Needs to be someone local and who is not presenting...probably an ops team person
  • As for the note taking policy for meetings, Katie reminded us that it's important that we take notes and be disciplined about this.

Cosmo/Scooby - Schwag

  • We should do something - hats, t-shirts etc
  • Make it for the whole org thing
  • Do this for the next release or sprint week
  • Comparable to chandler 0.6
