March 29 2006 Notes: Product Strategy Planning Vision

Reference: http://wiki.osafoundation.org/bin/view/Projects/ProductPlanProcess

Agenda Katie, Mimi, Sheila (on call) and Priscilla

  • Next steps on the strategy
  • What are the next steps from the Opps

Next Steps

  1. Prioritize the elements of the vision-->do we have the right set of elements? Should we go ahead and make the core team go about and do this exercise?
  2. PPD target user examples
  3. product road map.

Opps should the strategy discussion happen separate mailing list. And would make public later. OSAF staff, and would not be public to the whole. General list is public.

Katie: Need time to frame this and help with how this fits with everything. Until we have this we can't focus on the elements of the vision.

Mimi: Elements fell out into 3 sections.

  • Small work group collaboration
  • Community type things
  • Standard space and interopeability

Katie: Would it be helpful be useful when other ppl give priorities? How would we use it?

Philippe did come up with a list and come up with specific features. Mimi: Flush out some of the elements w/ examples that support the features. And to group them. Give a few concrete examples and possibly group things.

Making things explicit, what's important to you, but how goals should be stated in the product plan. Point of the exercise, introducing buy in, and we have to make choices.

Maybe not just the Opps team--> but on this new list. Help faced with the hard decision for something technical, does this meet the product planning end, in technical situations.

Introductions at the staff meeting. Kick off discussion in the list, end sense of priorities. Then come up with a proposals. Need examples before the Exercise to send to a collection point by a deadline.

Question/Decision from Ted, is this public/private?

Next steps:

  • Mimi to come up with examples for the list of priorities (under 'Elements of our vision at OSAF')
  • Sheila
    • To check w/ Ted about a centralizing a place on the wiki that is within OSAF
    • Process including the core team and work w/ Ted
    • Ted/Pieter to discuss the marketing piece, competitive analysis
  • Katie to make introductions at the staff meeting about OSAF private e-mail list and inform about the product planning of the PPD team is doing w/ the product plan, creating a list, competitive analysis list

General

  • Meeting is not to be scheduled every week. Just when it is needed. And perhaps discussed regularly at the Opps team meeting.
