Notes: Clarify Web UI

Attendees

  • Mimi
  • Matthew
  • Travis
  • Priscilla

Agenda

Overall chrome design

  • Sidebar navigation
  • View selector
  • Tools and buttons: Quick brainstorm of what we need

UI issues coming out of the Dashboard/Stamping stuff

  • Scrolling and pagination in the table? --> unified back button
  • Sorting?
  • Screen real estate

Other random UI elements to discuss

  • Delete versus Remove?
  • @time/anytime

Next actions:

  • Overall chrome design -->Mimi to create a wiki page and send out to the list.
  • Design to send proposal of target OS/browser size and to design list.
  • Design to start working on style guide for basic elements such as dialog boxes, fonts, button size/alignments etc.
  • Will follow up discussion on the design list, ie. dashboard/stamping stuff (just not enough time to cover all this stuff in one meeting)
  • Reschedule another time to go over Admin stuff

Notes:

@Time/Anytime

Refresh everyone on what this is and what the differences are.

  • Distinguish: start time w/ no end time
  • Recurring task on the calendar, not all day events, visually show non-specific time

  • When subscribing to a collection from Chandler, the lozenge color should match the same color as the Chandler user at first. It should be similar to 'display name' in a collection.

Delete versus Remove

  • Dependent on server stuff that still needs to be decided.

Screen real-estate

  • What is the target size 1024x768 or 800x600?
  • If we are to design

Platform OS + Browser

This is currently the proposal for the browsers we want to support in priority. There are two issues which this list will help us with:

  • Prioritize on bugs, especially before a release.
  • Help us focus on the the 'ideal design' in the UI elements, ie. spacing, alignment etc.

  1. Windows Firefox
  2. Windows IE7
  3. Windows IE6
  4. Apple Firefox
  5. Safari
  6. Linux Firefox (note: Matthew is currently developing in this so the app will work fine in Linux)

Target Screen Size

I think we're all in agreement that the target size we should focus on for a web application is 1024x768 - min screen resolution. Though one point which Mimi wishes to address is that the web app should still usable at 800x600 but does not need to look good. So for example the calendar canvas will look squished, but is is functional to double click an event lozenge on the calendar canvas.

Style guide

We discussed about trying to start working on a set of style guides. Here is a list of things that we may need to put in the style guide so that things are consistent:

  • Pop up standards
  • Hillite color
  • fonts - color, hover, links, labels
  • button size
  • where the buttons should align on the dialog next to each other, center, left/right
  • boiler plate model dialog, type error, info & something else
  • icon associated from each type ie. error icon
  • small size button and larger size button
