Goals and Objectives

  • Alpha4 enhancements are based on dogfood feedback/bugs we have received since releasing 0.6.
  • We consolidated all the bugzilla items into a spec for the benefit of QA and the developers.

Summary of Changes

  • User Problems Addressed by Changes
    • Confusion over how the preview pane works between the Calendar App area and other App areas
    • Allow navigation to the calendar from the preview pane
    • Improve busy-bar readability
    • Easily identify Today in the mini-calendar

  • What's New:
    • Adding the ability to display more events in the preview area.
      • Display as many as will fit in the sidebar without obscuring collections and leaving enough room to create new collections by d-clicking in-place.
      • If the user has more than is visible, provide a clickable link (# events) that expands and collapses the preview area.
      • NICE TO HAVE: Click on an event in the preview area and directly navigate to that event on the calendar.
        • The visual feedback for this behavior will probably not be in place for Alpha 4, but the click behavior will be.

  • What's Changing:
    • When viewing a user defined calendar collection - title the preview pane "Today's Events".
      • Provides the user with visual feedback that the contents of the preview pane are fixed on today's events.
    • When you navigate to other app areas, the title disappears.
      • As it works today, the contents of the preview pane update as we select different dates in the mini calendar.
    • A bunch of other visual tweaks relating to margins, dividers, spacing, size of busy bars etc.

Risks and Dependencies

  • Very minimal.
  • Many of these bugs have been fixed already.
  • These changes are straightforward and localized.
