Chandler Engineering Meeting, Thursday January 18th 2007

0.7alpha5 Schedule

Pre meeting notes:

• We are accumulating a backlog of bugs so, even if we are making progress on features and can apparently make 2/15 FC (modulo some issues under discussion) we are not making progress on the overall bug count.
• We need to punt more, scrub more, be more choosy in what we take or not for Preview
• When can we dogfood?

Notes:

• Recurrence branch to land this week
• Propose to use the blocker flag so that we flag the dogfood blockers. Rename the flag to dogfood? Philippe to mail the dev list on that.
• Performance: Heikki proposes to reduce the test set so that we can cycle faster
• How do we handle the Cosmo 0.6.1 schedule wrt to Preview? How do we get to a plan? We'll be discussing next meeting. Right now Cosmo team focusing on 0.6 anyhow.

Conflict resolution and Edit/Update

Pre meeting notes:

• We're having lots of discussion on lots of aspects of this right now (see notes)
• Gut feeling (from Philippe): doing the whole thing is turning out to be way bigger than anticipated (recurring items in particular making even the simnplest case pretty complex). We need to be ready to punt on some scenarios and fall back on "last win" algorithm for those. Suggest that we think about that list of scenarios.

Notes:

• We'll have a meeting Monday to talk about the recurrence and design of conflict resolution. Philippe to set up the meeting
• Critical: need to get the sharing going
• Sheila: Conflict management is a blocker (no data loss)
• Idea: look at how .Mac is doing things sometimes (like dupe data in some cases)
• Katie and Philippe to focus the discussion on the prio 1 scenarios

Others / Action update

• Interop Scenarios: Sheila to create a Wiki page on this
• Installers: for the moment, all of this is slated for post alpha5 FC. Bear, Sheila and Mimi met this morning on this. Sheila to send a proposal to the list later. Issues are mostly about migrating old repositories.

QA

• Test Plan update: posted to the list and waiting for feedback from people (please, read it and send your feedback)
• Still issues with the record playback system. John needed here.
• Integration/testing between Chandler and Cosmo: QA need more fleshed up scenarios from PPD. Will meet with them to get that done (we have lots of material on this but it's somewhat buried in specs, just needs to be surfaced in test plans).
• Test machine for Chandler service: Aparna meeting with Jared and Mikeal this week. Will report on this next meeting.
