Notes

Specs discussed

Milestone review

  • First milestone build failed -- had to drop a new build
  • Zanshin had bugs breaking sharing
  • Zanshin isn't part of the regular commit list because it's part of 'external'
  • VObject import bug found a day before milestone build -- was not completely fixed in first try so Jeffrey is adding unit tests
  • Ted suggests we could pull Zanshin from releases rather than building from latest sources. Zanshin could have a release process of its own.
  • Aparna suggests we should define the "code complete" date for a milestone, a day before the milestone build is scheduled.
  • Right now we have people checking changes in right to the zero hour -- and they haven't actually had a chance to test those checkins together.
  • Let's do, and announce, the Milestone Branch at the date we planned and after developers have checked in their last minute work. Then we'll do builds and iterate until we have a successful build and announce the Milestone Build.

Amazon and Flickr parcels

  • Now part of Mitch's demos
  • We should keep these on as example parcels, with ZaoBao?
  • We'll have unit tests, and maintain them -- it's part of the Chandler release
  • Not including de.icio.us parcel
  • May later add a "Hello World" parcel to be even simpler with line-by-line commenting
  • People know that they need to keep this up-to-date
  • Katie will check in Amazon and Flickr parcels
  • Katie will make sure that unit tests get added
  • We do have owners for each parcel (Morgen will own ZaoBao?, Ted own Flickr, Chao own Amazon parcel)
  • Katie will announce on dev

Contrib section in Chandler

  • E.g. Morgen's server parcels could be thrown in here

Personal SVN checkin areas

  • Bryan requested a way to checkin his personal tools -- tools he wants to have in a source repository, other people may or may not want
  • "Sandbox" is a good term for this
  • Does having a sandbox area mean that a contrib section isn't needed? We should start with the sandbox and add contrib section later if we find that's needed.
  • We do have a tool section now but it's more for build tools
  • Heikki will follow up on this with Mike
  • Will also do announce to 'dev' when sandbox area is available

IT issues

  • Backups of SVN and other repositories - IT team will follow up
  • Linux box -- Jared has put some thoughts on this but Apps team needs this solution this week. Bryan went to talk to Jared about what his needs were. This needs to be on the IT team's first "top five" project list.

OScon attendees, other than presenters

  • Ted needs to know ASAP

Unit tests

  • Can someone send a note to dev list about what the expectation is for how people should run unit tests?
  • Heikki will send email about this and about transition plan
  • We don't need to force people away from using Hardhat
  • OTOH there are already problems running hardhat on Windows
