Status of Email 1.0 planning

• PPD working on it
• Several threads on the list ie: Bridging the gap, emailing collections
• Needs summary then proposals
• Detailed Beta and 1.0 spec will follow

Alpha4 goals - reply, reply all, forward

• Nothing blocking reply, reply all, forward
• Some details still to work out

• What happens when we receive complex email
  • What UI do people see when they reply if the email had complex formatting
  • Spell this out in a spec
• Alpha4 work - Implies composing emails in Chandler - does this come with expectations
  • We have composition capability today - plain text
• Getting the stamping right will make the reply, reply all, forward work better
• Notes field scrolls today
• What is the behavior of a reply - is it a new item - how do they connect?
  • Threads are a part of clusters - have been deferred past 0.7 or Beta
  • Thread relationships under the hood.
  • We are not providing any ui for threads right now

• Toolbar - how difficult is it to have the send button left aligned with the detail view
  • Should we put the send button in the markup bar?
  • Mimi: Markup bar is small and the send button should be big
  • Mimi: If it were above the markup bar it would be in the general area
  • Priscilla: Toolbar in the bottom of the detail view?
  • Priscilla: Starting from top to bottom when you are composing
  • Mimi: The toolbar has more space
  • Mimi: If we put the send button in the detail view - we are running out of space
  • Mimi: We can move it to the right of the search bar - large with text than be a small icon in the markup bar

• Drafts
  • What if you reply then decide to not reply
  • User prompt - are you sure you don't want to send it?
  • Create the reply in the summary pane
  • As soon as you lose focus in the send then alert people
  • Should behave as today - create an item, stamp, send or not send
  • By default if you don't send then you save
  • Communication status for draft
  • We don't have a drafts folder
  • When you create a draft...it's in the Now section marked as a draft

• Not really but we need a mini spec and to close on the 1.0 plan soon

Next steps

• Put together a spec that will just have Alpha4 stuff - by Friday (Sheila)
• Summarize all the threads on the design list (Sheila)
• Follow-up meeting in 2 weeks to discuss the 1.0 proposals
