Community Working Group Meeting 5 October 2004
Agenda
- 0.4 release -- Pieter and Ducky are having meetings w/Chao and Sheila every Tuesday at 3 PM to discuss non-code (basically docs) issues.
- Mellon update -- Pieter has distributed a second pass of the Mellon doc. Mitchell would like to see the final report.
- Wiki license -- Pieter delayed by a day because he went to see the X-Prize-winning space flight. Ducky sent Pieter a list of contributors, now Pieter is to send message out, will give them two weeks to object. Ducky asked Jürgen about permalink instead. Pieter to make Web site CC license.
- Brian's test SMTP server -- Brian Kirsch has made a pathological SMTP server to give "bad" responses so that he could test the SMTP client's handling of bad responses. This is something that could be useful to any SMTP client developer, so we should perhaps contribute it back to the world. Only question then is: where do we put it? Suggestion: we could maybe contribute it to the Twisted project. Ducky to ask Brian if Twisted will take it.
- We will either not have a meeting next week or we will have a short meeting due to Ducky having a meeting with Mitch.
Other discussion
Developer dogfood
Chao joined us to talk about developer dogfood. He said that as they are starting to do 0.5 planning, they wanted to operationalize developer dogfood: who is the right person to be involved, what are the right platforms, etc. Ted is the right person, and he already has a meeting scheduled with Katie and Sheila to talk about these issues. (We see this as an ongoing, informal but consistent discussion.)
We talked about how we should figure out early what developer dogfood we want at the end of the release so that the tasks can propagate backwards to the beginning of the release.
ZaoBao
Some discussion about making
ZaoBao? a community third-party parcel. Pieter argued that since it was not core functionality that it might make sense to pass it to the outside world. To him, ZaoBao seems exactly the class of work that we could toss out to the community. Ted to mention that idea to Katie. CPIA will still be unstable through 0.5; maybe this is a good goal for later in the 0.5 or approach it as a Web-based aggregator.
Logging system
Hazmat is going to revamp our logging system starting mid-October, which means that we'll need a contributor license agreement soon.
