We need to upgrade the Email to Stamp to be a more generic Person/Communications stamp.
So something is just stamped with the Person/Comm stamp, the fields are:
- From:
- To:
- CC: (hidden by default)
- BCC: (hidden by default)
If something is stamped with the Person/Comm + Task stamps
- From:
- Assigned to:
- CC: (hidden by default)
- BCC: (hidden by default)
If something is stamped with the Person/Comm + Calendar stamps
- From:
- Invitees:
- CC: (hidden by default)
- BCC: (hidden by default)
If something is stamped with the Person/Comm + Task + Calendar stamps
- From:
- Assigned to:
- CC: (hidden by default)
- BCC: (hidden by default
The idea is that the Person/Comm stamp is used to attach Who-type metadata to items...with the OPTION to send out the item to people specified in the Who-type fields.
This is the way I've always thought of the Email stamp, as a first step towards this more generic notion of a People/Comm stamp.
Jim and June are organizing a dinner party.
Jim creates an item on their shared Home calendar that looks like this:
- From: Jim and June
- Invite: Ahab, Moby, Lars
- CC: Carol, Burnett (neighbors downstairs)
- BCC:
- Sent by: Jim
- Title: Black and Blue Dinner Party
- Location:
- Date/time info: Tuesday, Mar 14, 2006 6-10PM
- Body: Hey everybody, we're having our annual Black and Blue Dinner Party again. Come dressed in Black and Blue and bring something Black or Blue. Also, please list any food allergies and current fad- diet constraints.
A whole lot of Chatter ensues as replies to the original invitation.
Moby is a Chandler user, so he goes ahead and adds what he's bringing right on the event itself:
- From: Jim and June
- Invite: Ahab, Moby, Lars
- CC: Carol, Burnett (neighbors downstairs)
- BCC:
- Updated by: Moby

Moby: I'm not eating Fish and anything Yellow or Beige right now. I'll bring Eggplant and Black-eyed Peas.
IN THE FUTURE: If we had a notion of item conversations or comments attached to items, then Moby's comment would be added to the event as structured data.
IN THE FUTURE: Moby could do a silent or "small-n" notification/update for edits like this. That way, other Chandler users won't get re-focused on this event, instead, they'll just see his edits the next time they go look at the item.
June is also a Chandler user and notices that her husband forgot to specify a Location.
June also sifts through Ahab and Lars' replies, extracts some key pieces of info and updates the Body of the event:
- From: Jim and June

+ Moby: I'm not eating Fish and anything Yellow or Beige right now. I'll bring Eggplant and Black-eyed Peas.
+ Ahab: Charred Chicken Chunks. I'll eat the Black stuff, but not the Blue.
+ Lars: Does Rhubarb count as blue? I'll make blueberry-rhubarb cobbler. I'll eat anything I can digest.
When she's done, she sends out a "capital-N" Notification/Update to everyone.
Moby wants to invite his new girlfriend.
He replies to the invitation (to just Jim and June) to ask if that's okay. June says sure, she'll personally send out the invitation to Tanya.
IN THE FUTURE: June clicks an
button, adds Tanya and writes a quick personal note.
(ADD INVITEES could be a way to personalize mass emails for each recipient or for groups of recipients, even for the first time you're sending out an invitation.)
- From: Jim and June
- Invite: Ahab, Moby, Lars, Tanya

- June: Tanya, welcome to our annual tradition. Moby says you make a mean fake-blood pudding!

June can either make her personal note to Tanya public or private (just like in IRC). She chooses to make it public. She sends the Updated invitation to Tanya and sends a "small-n" notification/update to everyone else on the invitation. Chandler users don't get pinged. Non-Chandler users do. :o(
IN THE MEAN TIME: June adds Tanya's name to the Invite: field and adds a personal note to the top of the body.

Updated event provides consolidated view
So now, when Jim goes to figure out what he and June need to buy at the supermarket in preparation for the dinner party, he can just look on his calendar, find the dinner-party event and see who's coming and what everyone else is bringing. He doesn't need to sift through all the chatter and piece together everybody's chatter.
