Desktop Team Meeting November 13th, 2007

Agenda

  • 0.7.2: Things took longer than planned with a lot of bugs showing up in the last week. Thanks for all investigating and fixing those. Overall, this is a really interesting release (see release notes). Comments however on the end game process? How could we make it less painful? (I for one would welcome any proposal...)
  • 0.7.3: Leopard landed. Month View should land before Wednesday. Please note that the landing date is tomorrow so let's not slip or we'll be making the end game again painful... How do people feel on their 0.7.3 work load?
  • Builds: There's been a lot of changes and lots more are in the work, more than I can keep track off. We should ask Bear and Heikki to brief us up rapidly.
  • 0.7.future: Things seems under control if you look at P1 to P3. P4 to P5 are I think already on the cut line. Please please do swag the records assigned to you so there's one piece of data I can take into account when reviewing the work load. Otherwise I'm really flying blind.
  • Pilot project: news from Grant on how things are going on this front.

  • Misc
    • PyCon: Friday is the last day to propose a talk. Any idea / proposal? PJE, what about eggs? Please, think about it in the next few days.
    • Demos for the staff meeting: Anything you'd like to demo? I'm going to get done with my French po by Thursday so I'd like to demo that and other l10n features.
    • Have something to announce? Issues to bring to the group? Please take the stage, er, mic.

Minutes

0.7.2

  • John: need to be pinged when there's a blocker
  • Grant: we should be more hard line on the reviews, especially at the end
  • Andi: mega changes are hard to review (e.g. compact UI of BKirsch or big change from Morgen)
  • John: We have different results on tests on different machines, we need to go to the bottom of those TBoxes issues. Philippe to call for a meeting on TBoxes.

0.7.3

  • Leopard landed
  • Month View should land before Wednesday. We don't have the possibility to run the TBoxes on branches though. We should build them and have Dan banging on it for a couple of hours. Need to test on all platforms.
  • l10n should be finished, Brian to do some doc, Bryan finishing the layout.

Builds

  • Supporting Leopard and Gutsy now, since we can't test all environments before we commit, we need to monitor when we commit big or risky changes
  • Panther: we should drop it, Philippe to ask Jared if he had data

0.7.future

  • Please SWAG your bugs!

Pilot project

  • Short demo Thursday
  • Things going well so far
  • Worked on the test system for the graphical layer

Misc

  • PyCon: Friday is the last day to propose a talk. Any idea / proposal? PJE, what about eggs? Please, think about it in the next few days.
  • Demos for the staff meeting: Anything you'd like to demo? I'm going to get done with my French po by Thursday so I'd like to demo that and other l10n features.

Status

Andi

Brian (bkirsch)

  • Proposed resolution to [Bug 10407] obscure error message on failure to send mail because authentication wasn' t checked
  • Tracked down error on [Bug 11210] AttributeError?: osaf.pim.mail.MailStamp. bccAddress when updating message to itemcentric.py
  • Committed new features to createTranslationEgg as part of [Bug 11246] Localization translation files need to be built in to eggs and included in Makefile and releases. The --dist argument builds the egg for distribution
  • Working on bug 10938 Outlook 2003 unable to parse Chandler Event emails
  • Preparing "How to Localize Chandler document"
  • Booked Chandler Office visit December 3rd - 7th

Bryan (stearns)

  • Still working on DV layout rework: I've integrated my changes back into Chandler, and am working through the remaining problems, mostly around management of visibility and the edit-in-place widgets
  • Took nearly a day to rebuild my development machine on Gutsy, since we no longer build Feisty-friendly binaries.

Grant

  • Your status here...

Jeffrey

  • Attended Oracle testing session, attended FLOSS, did a write-up about FLOSS
  • Worked on Esther's Chandler problems
  • Fixed a recurrence bug, Bug#10777
  • APP work: got minicalendar working

John

  • Narrowed down a recorded scripts tinderbox failure to a localization problem that the tests identified. Unfortunately, the problem only happens on the tinderboxes. Spent quite a bit of time convincing various people that the problem was real, worth understanding and worth fixing correctly. Pje finally got to the bottom of it and bear implemented a fix.
  • Narrowed down another problem that only reproduces on the recorded scripts tinderboxes. This problem is unrelated to recorded scripts. So far I have verified that the trunk running on the recorded scripts tinderbox also exibits the problem, but I don't yet have a solution.

  • Still stuck in tinderbox hell, tracking down and fixing problems on the tinderboxes that are unrelated to recorded scripts. I've verified that the trunk fails to run on the recorded_scripts tinderboxes. I get failures running my recorded_scripts tinderboxes that don't happen on my machine and I've occationally seen failures on my machine that I don't see on the tinderboxes. I suspect these probably are related to speed of the machines running the tinderboxes, configuration differences between machines, or some other difference unrelated to the Chandler code.
  • Narrowed down bug #11202: Debug build crashes on first attempt to open repository created by end-user build for same version to a repository call that, incorrectly causes events to be processed during a save.
  • Fixed a bug in the recorded scripts branch where TestI18N?.py merges from the trunk were missing. Interestingly, Heikki saw this same error independently on the Trunk, so I suspect some SVN wierdness might be involved.
  • Found a problem with a recorded script that fails on Sunday. Tracked down the problem to a time dependency of the script. Rerecorded the script to avoid the time depencency. The new script runs locally, but fails on the tinderboxes. I suspect that this might be a real problem related to the speed of the machines running the tinderboxes.
  • Worked narrowing down a bug that always occurs on the branch tinderboxes, used to appear on the trunk tinderboxes, but currently doesn't appear on the trunk tinderboxes. This particular bug is probably a timing dependent bug in the old functional test framework. I'm pretty close to understanding the cause of this bug.
  • Still waiting for Bear and Heikki to get the Linux tinderboxes running on the recorded scripts branch
  • Installed Leopard. My disk was always getting full, so I installed a larger disk first. I now know why installing a disk in a MacBook? Pro voids the warranty. I ran into a few snags, but it's looking like my world is almost normal.

Morgen

  • HTTP Proxy support
  • New Auto-restore shares dialog
  • Cleanup of sharing layer

Philippe (pbossut)

  • Spend lots of time on 0.7.2 monitoring and bug triaging
  • Management duties
  • Strategy : in conversation with folks in Europe over Chandler, planning to push the heat on that once the first localization is out
  • Fixed remaining l10n string changes
  • Will produce a French po for Thursday

Phillip (PJE)

  • APP "Hello World" milestone reached

Reid

  • Your status here...

Robin

  • Fixed the following:
  • Bring OSAF's wx up to the wxPython 2.8.6.1 release with a series of new wx tarballs.
  • Fixed DrawEllipticArc on wxMSW
  • Fixed wxBitmapButton::SetBitmapLabel on wxMac
  • Fixed wxGraphicsContext::DrawBitmap on wxMSW when the bitmap has alpha.
  • Fix bleed-through glitches when freezing the top level window on wxMSW.
  • Working on integrating the Google Summer of Code version of XRCed into wxPython.
  • Working on chasing down some more wxMac bugs and coordinating with Stefan on their fixes.
  • Providing support, answers, and etc. for the wxWebKit project. The wxWebKit code has now been merged into the main trunk of the WebKit subversion tree, and is on the way to becoming an official WebKit port. There have even been a couple fixes from the main WebKit developers based on warnings in the buildbot.
  • Integrated the Editra (http://editra.org/) programmer's editor into the wxPython distribution.
  • Preparing for the 2.8.7.0 release of wxPython.
  • Various community support activities via email and IRC.
