Desktop Team Meeting October 2nd, 2007

Agenda

  • Short release cycle: We need to put a date out. Proposes to release on Wednesday. Need to discuss with Aparna and Katie about that. Latest will be end of October.
  • Current Bug load: We have 105 bugs on there. Needs to be load balanced and scrubbed taking Mimi's list intto account (action Philippe). Comments?
  • Katie's email on decision making (summary: driver/owner, consensus but not blocking). Comments on that?
  • Katie's email on strategy (user, revenue, developers). Katie to talk about it.
  • Evangelize: meeting this afternoon @ 3pm. Participate if you can.

  • Misc : (5 min)
    • Sprint week was great. Comments?
    • Leopard : we got a dmg on a server, did people download? I also have a seed DVD but that's likely not up to date with the downloadable dmg. People tried?
    • Wing 3.0: Stearns got the licences, Jeffrey tried, comments?
    • Have something to announce? Issues to bring to the group? Please take the stage, er, mic.

Minutes

Short release cycle

Everybody's on board, the meeting during the sprint week cleared a lot of issues. All what's left is for Philippe to iron the kinks in the process, email the dev list with the resolution and set a date with the Desktop Bug Council (tomorrow).

Current Bug load

  • The list of 105 bugs needs to be pruned down (action Philippe and Bug Council)
  • Jeffrey: feels he needed to get re-focused after the post release lull, getting there though

Katie's email on strategy

  • Andi likes the message, +1
  • Month View needs to happen. That's a PPD decision motivated by an overwhelming and consistent users feedback...
  • Note to all: we need to be more reactive on email threads so they don't die out. The driver/owner is responsible to send "last calls" when needed to nail a decision

Misc

  • Sprint week was great. Andi says "Mikeal is a great cook!" smile
  • Leopard
    • Andi tried it and it sucked! Chandler broke on weird binaries errors.
    • Reid was able to run Chandler on a previous seed. Will try with a new seed (action Reid)
  • Wing 3.0
    • Issue when debugging with a new repo, would be good to dig through this issue (action Stearns)

Status

Andi

Brian (bkirsch)

  • Fixed [Bug 10131] Unlocalizable layout in the Accounts dialog.
  • Fixing doctest module to work with non-ascii file paths.
  • Putting together 0.7.1 localization roadmap.
  • Reworking createPot.py to use xgettext which has better debugging than pygettext and allows localization comments to be placed in code.
  • Beginning discussion on how to create localization builds of Chandler for 0.7.1.

Bryan (stearns)

  • Upgraded to Wing 3.0 after getting them to upgrade all our licenses; working on figuring out why it won't start anymore frown
  • Talked to Mimi about "who" column changes she wants
  • Working on my 0.7.1-targeted bugs

John

  • Discovered that my plumbing of the event loop to support dialogs doesn't work on Macintosh and Linux. This was a surprise because the event loop code that I modified was machine independent.
  • Learned how to plumb the event loop on Macintosh
  • GTK was another challenge -- the event loop isn't part of wxWidgets, it's part of GTK, so it took me awhile to figure out another strategy that would work on Linux.

  • Finished my event plumbing task. Reviewed, tested, checked in.
  • Helped out Multiweek view project by plugging in dummy UI
  • I've been creating recorded scripts, testing them and fixing a few lingering bugs caused by my recent changes
  • Spent a little time thinking about Chandler evangelism.

Morgen

  • Your status here...

Philippe (pbossut)

  • Organized some Sprint weeks events and meetings
  • Worked on Strategy ideas (embedded plugins and bundles)
  • Worked on Evangelizing ideas
  • Brainstorm with ops on strategy
  • Working on 0.7.x processes and plan

Phillip (PJE)

  • Your status here...

Reid

  • Sprint week at OSAF
  • Working with Jeffrey, Robin and John on branches/multiweekview, which is rooted in Bug#5361 (30-day view? Variable multi-day view)
  • Installed Wing 3 and got it running
  • Will try installing the new Leopard seed (9a599?) on my Intel Mac Pro; may also install on a G5
    • will test Chandler to see if it runs correctly
    • Chandler had problems with binary library compatability in early seeds, but the most recent seed I've tried (9A527) was fine.
    • Andi had problems on his PowerBook G4
