Desktop Team Meeting July 10th, 2007

Agenda

  • Preview (20 min):
    • Localization Freeze milestone: This is it! We declared that milestone reached yesterday. Thanks a lot for pushing those last string fixes through. That's a good thing done. Comments on that?
    • Code Complete: We are only 1 week away so we need to focus on P1 and P2. There are only 26 code related bugs to go and a handful per dev (a max of 5). The Bug Council will scrub the remaining P3 this afternoon and promote a couple more if needs be. Thanks for staying focused this last week on this objective. Anyone with issues about the date? The bug find rate? Any other?
    • After CC: The only bugs we'll be fixing will be "must fix" between now and Release, as decided by the Bug Council. The usual end game restrictions will apply: only commit with a bug associated with them will be allowed (exception: test fix), code review will be required for all checkins (we use the Bugzilla review request system). Questions about this? Suggestions to make this period work better?
    • Release Candidate: is still schedule for July 30 (2 weeks after that). The criteria to declare the release ready for diffusion is to have 0 bug logged and a quiet period of 3 days without taking bugs in.
  • EuroPython (5 min): update from BKirsch if he makes it to the call or if we get some emailed news
  • SoC and intern update (5 min):
    • KEI has scheduled the traditional Intern presentation for Thursday August 9th.
    • Any interesting stories from our interns or SoC students?
  • Misc : (5 min)
    • Have something to announce? Issues to bring to the group? Please take the stage, er, mic.

Minutes

  • Preview
    • Localization Freeze milestone: Q: When will the restriction on string changes be dropped? A. This will fall be relinquished after we branch 0.7
    • Code Complete: John would like to talk about the duplicate collection issue
  • Documentation
    • Website, wiki, etc... Lots of things to do and clean.
    • John: first 10 minutes of a user experience important. This will be addressed by Pieter's guide material. We need however to get it tried by external people to pin point what are the main blockers.
    • Other documentation that would be useful:
      • Architecture, parcel example
      • State of stamping
      • Sharing
      • Dump and Reload
  • SoC and intern update
    • Phil (SoC student) worked on the quick entry field and refactored the code. Q. Do we want that in the trunk? Katie: we can do that in a 7.1 branch. We voted to have his stuff landing in the trunk after we branch Preview.
    • Vera has something that can step back in history.
