Apps Team Meeting February 22nd, 2007

Agenda

  • Question du Jour : (5 min) Ideas to help QA?
  • Alpha5 progress: (15 min) The FC is 2 weeks away. At that date, we need to have zero task open in Bugzilla and we still have 38 open, of which 23 assigned to the Apps team. I'd like to hear from everybody how they feel about their own task load in that perspective.
  • Quality bar: (15 min) It has been suggested to add new unit tests when we add new features. Who's doing this? What are the elements blocking more unit tests to be written?
  • Issues and Announcements : (5 min) Have something to announce? Issues to bring to the group? Please take the stage.

Minutes

Question du Jour

Ideas to help QA?
  • John: working on the test framework!
  • Jeffrey: should make time to participate to the QA session
  • Bryan: 1 day a week is too much certainly

Alpha5 progress

  • Jeffrey: recurrence in email done, still has to do triage and recurrence stuff, feel fine about them
  • John: OK with tasks but really concerned by the bug mounting bug flow, hard to keep up with just that
  • Reid: Still on expando date, update/send button next week, should add the conflict UI to it
  • Brian: Working on Edit/Update with EIM, not sure about the Dump and Reload
  • Bryan: Section triage status change ready to commit, autotriage is now clear with Mimi so will be able to work on it now, not sure about the Edit/Update UI stuff for DV he picked up from Reid
  • Robin: good shape for tasks

Quality bar

  • Few write unit tests, most of the UI code is not appropriate for unit test
  • Brian has been writting lots in the past but slowed down recently because of schedule

Status

Brian

  • Fixed [Bug 8194] Crash when forwarding mail sent from Chandler using fastmail account
  • Fixed [Bug 8189] Chandler created folders do not show up in Inbox on berkeley mail server
  • Fixed [Bug 8065] Mail error
  • Ongoing discussions regarding forwarding, default account behavior, and IMAP folders re-discovery
  • Working on Edit / Update workflows

Bryan

  • Finally committed the section triage status rework
  • Finally got approval for my rewrite of the triage feature spec from Mimi (I think... I'm waiting for Mimi to update the spec with my changes)
  • Starting on the spec'd autotriage features today; need to work with Jeffrey on areas where autotriage overlaps with recurrence
  • I don't have a sense of how much of the edit/update workflow work I have on my plate (both because I don't know the scope, and because I'm not sure what Brian K is planning on doing). I'm also concerned that the design isn't done changing...

Jeffrey

  • Holiday! Yay dead presidents.
  • Talked with Andi and Grant about UI notification issues associated with the new inheritTo mechanism for setting attributes on occurrences
  • Talked with Mimi about how recurrence should interact with sharing moving items to the NOW section
  • Helped a vobject user trying to work with vcards
  • Tried to help Davor get his alpha4 setup usable (he's attached to the arrangement of collections, so he doesn't like to use restore settings if he doesn't have to), unfortunately we didn't have much success
  • Fixed a ton of little tasks/bugs, like making anytime the default when clicking in the allday canvas, fixing little Linux bugs, etc.
  • Invested time in attempting to resurrect freebusy, my initial assessment is that it's not worth doing before preview
  • Finished the process around making Darshana a committer
  • Worked on making email and recurrence work together smoothly (all email-only fields should automatically apply to all occurrences)

John

  • Worked on bug#8117: Minicalendar not aligned at startup and got very close to a solution.
  • Spent most of the 3 day weekend working on my conversion to a Macintosh that began almost exactly 90 days ago -- mostly rebuilding 3 PCs for use by new owners.
  • Tuesday morning my new Macintosh died -- looks like the VRAM failed. Spend most of the remainder of the day trying to get an appointment at an Apple store to get it fixed. After talking to a genius at the Genius Bar, the told me it was dead and I should take it in to the Apple Store in Utah since I planned on leaving for Utah the next day. They also said I should assume that the disk would be erased when it was repaired. Fortunately, I do weekly backups. But in this case I could access the computer's disk as an external firewire drive, so I decided to pick buy another disk and make an exact copy the drive since it would save me time doing a restore.
  • That evening Apple called me to say 90 days had passed since I bought the computer and that my complimentary support was up.
  • I left for Utah on Wednesday and arrived at noon on Thursday. The first thing I did was stop by the Apple Store. There they told me they couldn't take my computer for repair because all the appointments at the Genius Bar were booked for the day. So instead I called Apple Care -- whose number is amazingly hard to find on the web -- and asked them to send me a box so I could mail it in.
  • The genius in Palo Alto said the repair shouldn't take longer than 8-10 days. However, my neighbor recently had his Mac repaired and it took more than a month.
  • Fortunately, I had my old Shuttle mostly set up. It was missing one drive that had my home directory and the Linux partition. I set up a new home directory and restored my work environment. So I'm finally able to get some work done, but won't be able to easily test on Mac or Linux until my computer is repaired.

Philippe

  • Fixed Bug#8137 (Disable printing)
  • 2 days OOF (holiday + 1 PTO)
  • Alpha5: triage, dogfooding and IRC session
  • Started to work on Bug#5358 (Choose device when Chandler on a network disk)

Reid

  • Spent more time on expando date (Bug#6764), but not making a lot of progress
  • Will spend the next week on update UI (Bug#7766, Bug#5535, Bug#8203)
  • Will also work on Bug#7696 (Tooltips in Detail View for Markupbar)

Robin

  • Assisted with the work to make the minical scalable. Discovered some bugs and platforms inconsistencies in wxGraphicsContext along the way.
  • Add gdiplus.dll to the install step for Windows. (Bug#7993)
  • Worked on wxWebKit, fixing build issues, tracking down a rendering bug, and a networking bug on Windows. Coordinating and brainstorming with Kevin Ollivier.
  • Cleared a few bugs and patches from my list at Sourceforge, and some other issues identified by the wxPython community.
