Apps Team Status February 1st, 2007

This is a "no meeting - status only week". Please update your weekly status here under.

Status

Brian

  • Putting the finishing touches on the largest mail checkin since Chandler .5. The Account Preferences dialog rework is almost complete as is the modifications to the save restore feature under the test menu. The mail changes have turned out quite nice and really make interacting with Mail via Chandler much much nicer. I have also really re-worked the Account Preferences dialog to be much more user friendly and powerful. I will be checking in all this code on Monday which includes support for Foldering and Chandler Headers and host of other open tasks / bugs.
  • After the check in has landed I will start my work on the Edit / Update workflows.
  • If time permitting I would like to implement a Advanced mail configuration dialog under the Experimental menu that takes advantage of all the cool features the mail service offers that are not yet represented in the UI. If this does not make it in to Preview by feature freeze I may try and implement it for Preview during the QA phase since this menu is intended to be Experimental anyways.

Bryan

  • Working on two big alpha5 feature sets: edit/update representation in the detail view (and the email addressing issues around it), and autotriage
  • Almost done with getting Chandler to not validate email addresses on input.
  • Participated in discussions about autotriage
  • Made a few suggestions to Reid about managing Send button appearance

Jeffrey

  • Recurrence and triageStatus work checked in (also met about triage status)
  • Tweaked collection removal dialogs
  • Made several sharing changes to aid Mikeal doing interop testing at Calconnect
  • Fixed a few ics/email drag and drop bugs that have crept in in the last 6 months, asked Dan to test drag and drop periodically
  • Thought, talked about, and coded beginnings of EIM Event import/export code

John

  • I finally checked in a first draft of search ready for feedback.
  • Fixed a zillion bugs related to search.
  • Sent out an email to Design summarizing the current state of search with an eye to Preview and beyond.
  • Did some long overdue refactoring, some of which I hope will improve performance.
  • Triaged all my new bug list, and fixed a few (#7805, #7933).
  • Started work on next round of automating testing.
  • Ordered a copy of Vista. I'm hoping to be the first person on the planet to run Chandler on Vista.

Philippe

  • Alpha5 activities: bug triage, check progress with devs
  • Dogfood: able at last to dogfood alpha5 smile Still getting some bugs though and logging them (1 a day on average)
  • Participated to the Triage Status discussion
  • Some HR activities (intern plan, contracts, etc...)

Reid

  • Fixed Bug#7648 (Remove search icon from text field and replace 'Search' text with 'Create new item') thanks to Robin fixing Bug#7675 (Need to change default "grey" text in search control)
  • Triaged a bunch of new bugs
  • Worked out a better mechanism for the detail view to handle changes to the main view
    • talked this over with Bryan
    • want to reduct calls from detail view directly to main view (UI interdpendency BAD)
    • will use a BlockEvent? to get the main view to update the "Send" toolbar item appropriately
  • code almost ready for checkin, minus the hooks to low-level API that is still in-progress.
  • have a partial fix for Bug#7612 (Recognizing URLs in the Notes field)
    • need to find where the Notes field is being set to be rich text because making it URL-sensitive also makes it rich text
    • with patch as it stands, get some sort of double-richening of the text on certain platforms, which is an error
