Apps Team Meeting January 11th, 2007

Agenda

  • Question du Jour : (5 min) Have your heard/read anything interesting a propos Scott's book?
  • Alpha5 : (15 min) I updated the bug graph and we basically have a flat curve in all sectors. That means we create as many issues and as critical as the ones we fix or implement. Not a good trend. This is highly variable though with areas/devs so clearly, we need to help each other to get this under control within the next few weeks. Comments, proposals, questions?
  • Issues and Announcements : (5 min) Have something to announce? Issues to bring to the group? Please take the stage.
    • Suggestion: email the list when you land a feature (something Cosmo has been doing since November). Good? Bad?
  • Misc (5 min):
    • Last day of Bryan Stearns in Howard street Friday. Bryan will be driving to Oregon over the weekend and will join the cohort of remote folks. Be prudent on the road Bryan... smile

Summary

  • Progress
    • Good meetings this week cleared out lots of issues on Edit/Update and Conflict management
    • Making progress on features but the bug count is catching up with us
  • Plan
    • Edit/Update: start a Wiki and daily IRC check up (Philippe)
    • Alpha5, alpha5, alpha5...

Minutes

Question du Jour

Have your heard/read anything interesting a propos Scott's book?
  • No feedback yet
  • John cringing reading the book wink
  • Pretty fair book alltogether

Alpha5

  • Edit/Update high risk: need to micro management might be necessary, too many moving part (Morgen, Grant, Reid, Brian, PJE). Do a daily check up on IRC at 11am. Need a better picture, use a table somewhere on the Wiki. Philippe to take that task.
  • Search: John switching to get Darshana things in the toolbar. Andi could be used as a resource to help out.
  • Recurence branch: Jeffrey to help Grant to land the branch
  • Decoupling from/to from email at risk

Issues

  • Adopted: email the list when we land a significant feature.
  • Functional tests and commit: Too many issues too many times with no apparent reason. We're having a set of problems, different for everybody. Some of us sometimes commit and watch the TBoxes. Seems like an OK solution when blocked though we are committed to keep the TBoxes green (i.e. back out a change that fails the TBoxes).

Status

Brian

  • Your status here...

Bryan

  • Finished (I think) all the indexing and grid-widget-state work.
  • Whittling down my alpha5 bug list; the only big outstanding thing is tooltips in the grid
  • Participated in sprint-week discussions (update workflow, conflict UI)
  • Finished Reid's good work on getting the triage-status button into the detail view.
  • Packing up for the big northerning

Jeffrey

  • changed delete and remove behavior (added a dialog, tweaked other pieces of the delete system, Bug#5933, Bug#6960, Bug#6938, Bug#7682)
  • added a confirmation dialog for collection delete (Bug#6172)
  • small bug fixes (Bug#7635, Bug#7615)
  • 2 PTO days (vacation time, and a sick day)
  • Pushed through my resistance to solving wx C++ problems and found the issue with a tiny wx import dialog problem (which, happily, Robin fixed before I had a fix, but I was glad to practice figuring out such things)
  • Fixed an iCalendar import problem I'd missed (Bug#7686)

John

  • Worked on switching over "Search" to become "Quick Entry". This involved resurecting Darshana's code and adding her attribute editor to the toolbar. It wasn't too hard to get the toolbar to be able to contain an attribute editor.
  • I ran into a interesting snag with the attribute editor's list box that displays matching commands: On Macintosh the list box comes up behind the toolbar. I spent several days trying out various approaches to fix the problem. Finally after delving into the source of the problem, deep inside wx, I came up with a solution using the native carbon HIView APIs that allowed me to place the list box above the toolbar.
  • I still need to verify that the proposed Macintosh solution to the list box problem is compatible with a related requirement to work with buffered windows.

Philippe

  • Triaged bugs (quite a backlog!...) and communicated with PPD on some of them
  • Conflict resolution meeting
  • Edit/Update meeting
  • Checked with devs on their alpha5 progress
  • Tooltip and bug 7425: commited a couple of stuff for bug 7425 and spawn some fresh bugs to cover the rest
  • Quite a bit of HR related work (renewing contracts)
  • Took advantage of the Sprint week to have 1:1 with all the remote folks

Reid

  • Your status here...

Robin

  • On site at OSAF.
  • Merged wx 2.8.1.0 into Chandler (Bug#7684). Going pretty smoothly so far. This will also resolve these bugs:
    • Bug#5237: no scrolling when typing a long title in event lozenge
    • Bug#7558: Selected state of toolbar buttons looks bad on Mac
    • Bug#7618: Search textbox is ~3 characters tall on Ubuntu
    • Bug#7688: Import dialog doesn't browse to where it indicates it will
  • Verified with Stefan that these bugs are not fixable at this time:
    • Bug#6176: editing long sharing URL scrolls text too much
    • Bug#7071: text selection off when search bar scrolled
  • Helped John, Jeffrey, and others with wx issues.
  • Various community support activities via email and IRC.
