Question du Jour : (10 min) Thoughts about recent WWDC announcements?
Alpha4 planning status : (10 min) We are 24 working days from alpha4 feature freeze (sept 19th). The workload is high for almost everybody though manageable. The bug count went down in the last 3 weeks though last week was flat. We need to focus to get this trend under control. Questions to all: are there still tasks that are not logged in Bugzilla for alpha4 at that point?
Issues and Announcements : (10 min) This is your opportunity to announce something (completion of some work, availability of something) or raise concerns or ask questions having an influence on the projects. Areas could be:
Specs clarifications
Dependency with other tasks within or outside the group
Build, test or QA issues
Interns : (10 min) It's going to be time to land the projecs (source and doc). If you are a mentor, you'll have to spend a fair amount of time in the next few weeks helping your intern cleaning up and documenting. Also, think about proposing a patch to the dev list if the code should make it to the trunk. We'll review the current projects and what the next steps are for each.
Geek Talk : (5 min) We sort of dropped the ball on this in the past few months. Anyone willing to shoot for one?
Summary
Progress
Alpha4 on track though fix/found rate was flat this week
Successful intern presentations
Plan
0.7alpha4 : keep making progress on the various feature areas
0.7 : review stickie plan with PPD for next alphas
Interns : land projects as appropriate
Meeting Notes
Question du Jour : Thoughts about recent WWDC announcements?
Philippe: thought the CalDAV announcement was validating what we're doing (not this little thing done by just us)
Bryan: concerned on how the Cosmo team feels on the CalDAV announcement
Brian: liked the Time Machine, CalDAV was interesting
John: surprised they didn't introduced the core 2 duo on the MacBook
Alpha4 planning status
Bryan feels that the low hanging fruits are gone and he's now working on the larger chunks (ticklers). Think he's on track though.
Dependencies? A little on stamping though we can go with the old model for the moment. Reid in vacation but his work on toolbar is required for Darshana and Brian to make progress.
Platform team might be late on dump and reload / sharing format (they are talking about it right now). Shouldn't have any influence on us though.
For the moment, alpha4 schedule shaped by Dashboard and Calendar UI improvemens.
Issues and Announcements
NLP: What's the next step? Get feedback from the dev list. The search bar though may have to wait till Reid is done with Toolbar and the design controversy settles.
Build: issues with the wx Tinderboxes (virtualization). Heikki, Bear and Robin on it.
wx: got some interested contacts in the Amaya's community. Philippe to follow up with them.
Interns
Darshana will likely be extended till Nov 5th (depends on her Foreign Student Affairs office now)
Markku making progress on stat tool
Geek Talk
Brian would like to present on egg but after alpha4
Status
Brian
Migrated all Chandler example parcels to Python eggs and moved under the projects directory.
Removed wx dependencies from i18n code. The existence of the wx package is checked before calls to wx are made.
Various tasks and bug fixes related to the build system and new i18n code including a couple of unit test framework additions.
Reviewed the Chandler IMAP Server code
Looking at tools for Mozilla Thunderbird to allow custom headers on mail messages
Reviewing and thinking about best goals for email in Chandler Beta and beyond
Brief discussion with Reid regarding implementation details of reply, reply all, forward (he is on vacation this week)
Assisted in brainstorming for the re-architecture of the XRC to Chandler pot creation.
Bryan
Working on dashboard tickler features. Internal work (to support absolute ticklers on all items, in addition to support for relative ticklers on events) is done.
Next step is reworking the detail view UI.
Andi's implementing a new mechanism to support calculated attributes (actually, calculation in response to any of several attributes changing), which is needed for (a) dashboard's complex indexing, (b) lastmodified support, and (c) tickler handling.
Darshana
Working on making the parsedatetime code localizable
Also, making changes in the Chandler to accomodate the changes in parsedatetime library
Working on the quick-item entry in the text widget (Bug#6470)
Jeffrey
A few cycles of review and discussion with Darshana on her patch for bug 6249
Helped out vobject newbies on the mailing list
Chatted with Apple folks about adding (hopefully, getting them to add) microformat support to vobject
Mailing list: quick entry
Bug 5530, calendar scroll bar persistence
Tons of work on bug 6233, calendar UI update
John
I spent almost the entire week deep into the sidebar redesign. I feel like I'm out on a limb with my current design and I'm not 100% certain it's going to work out in the end. I've made a lot of progress, but the end is not in sight.
Markku
Bug#5968 is in code review. Closing this one will conclude the wx-Chandler.MessageFactory pipe work that I have been doing for almost three months now -- although I have not spend much time on this one in the last two months.
Related to Bug#5968 is how to enable 3rd party developers to easily use XRC resources in their work. This week I have studied and discussed about multiple approaches with Brian ja Robin. A good solution has been proposed and is in implementation phase; see Bug#6505.
The first application in the project management tools set is almost ready for alpha release. This release will be deployed to Philippe and Heikki for testing purposes.
Worked on various wx activities: Friday's IRC hour, cleaned up Wiki, tried to figure out what our next steps should be vis-à-vis wxTNG in particular
Interns: working on extending Darshana and Vinu, helping interns to land their projects, hosted IRC Office Hour
alpha4: checked workload with team, engineering meeting and bug council duties
QA: started to review QA personal plan for the next 9 months with Mikeal and Aparna
Reid
PTO this week
Robin
Finished up the Column Header refactor and have checked in the changes for review on the wx-trunk. This was a fairly large task but all went smoothly with no unexpected problems. Will roll it over to Chandler today or tomorrow. This should close about 10 of my bugs, and will make some of the others easier to fix.
Worked with Markku and Brian on i18n issues for XRC. We decided on a change for the XmlResource handler class that will allow the message catalog domain be set that should be used for loading the strings used in the XRC. Since this will be a fairly simple task for me I took it on and will have it done today or tomorrow so it can be part of the wx rollout.
Various community support activities via email and IRC.
