Apps Team Meeting 10 August 2006

Agenda

Because of the long intern and SoC presentations today overlapping with the Apps meeting and because some of us are also at WWDC this week, we will not have our regular weekly Apps meeting. You're all invited though to update your weekly status here under.

Status

John

  • I spent the week stuck down two ratholes: The first is the rewrite of the sidebar. The second was caused by noticing that Donn's "dynamic children" code was broken. Both tasks turned out to be more difficult than I originally thought.

Reid

  • Attending WWDC
  • Met with Stefan and talked about wx toolbar issues
    • Stefan believes he has a not-quite-as-ambitious method of getting toolbar controls to work
    • showed me a demo of them working with a combo box and a menu
  • talked with Apple people who mentioned how NSToolbar keeps copies of controls around
    • possible avenue for returning toolbar to full functionality
  • attended a few sessions about Apple's open source calendar server
    • uses Python and Twisted; very interesting
  • Chandler, Cosmo and OSAF mentioned several times at WWDC
  • wondering how to report on certain NDA topics; verbally, I guess; or on the KKIE wiki?

Robin

  • Refactoring the Column Header classes to clean up the mess, move platform specific code to the wxRendererNative class, remove unused/uneeded code, and make it much easier to fix the current colheader bugs. (Some have already been fixed just as part of the refactoring.)
  • Finished the merge of wx upstream source changes.
  • Assisted with the wxWidgets 2.7.0 release.
  • Minor bugs in wxTimer, TreeListCtrl, Mac clipboard, wxWindow::Fit, etc. found and fixed.
  • Various community support activities.

Markku

  • Experimented with twill library. It seems that there are problems with that library in Windows when trying to access HTTPS pages. In Linux everything seemed to work just fine. One possible solution is to explore the applicability of M2Crypto to improve the HTTPS support in Python.
  • Wrote a parser that reads this kind of XML bugzilla page.
  • Wrote a parser that reads this kind of HTML bugzilla page.

Brian

  • Code complete on i18n architecture.
  • Working with bear to iincorporate i18n rearchitecture in to Chandler.
  • Fixed a number of issues related to unit tests and i18n.
  • Got Mac Pro laptop up and running and configured with appropriate softeware and developer tools.
  • Reviewed Alpha 4 Email plan.
  • Meeting with Reid to go over implementation details of email in Alpha 4.
  • Reviewing past "Email in Chandler" emails and thinking about road to email in Chandler Beta.
  • Resolvng last of i18n issues including loading by wx of wxstd.mo translation files.
  • Held two Skype discussions with John Anderson regarding refreshing localized meta data when the Chandler locale set changes.

Bryan

  • Focusing on trying to figure out the domain-model changes required by the dashboard requirements.

Jeffrey

  • Lots of Apple nonsense, driving down to Cupertino, waking up early to go the WWDC. It was fun, though.
  • Fixed a vobject problem with handling utf-16
  • Worked on various calendar face lift pieces (bug 6233)
  • Worked with Darshana on her presentation and gave project guidance
  • Met with Francesca from Creative Commons about effective meetings

Philippe

  • Intern and SoC Presentations : dry runs, slide decks, Office Hour, support to interns, demos, etc...
  • Monitored alpha4 bugs and workload
  • Committed a small fix for bug #6117
  • Worked with Xun on a plan for the rest of his MVA work
  • Worked with Markku on bug stats tool ideas
