Question du Jour
Have you been thinking about a 20% Self Assigned project?_
- Jed : write a personalized Chandler widget for Google IG
- Jeffrey : write "subzilla" a command line interface for submitting svn patches to bugzilla; expand the contact stuff written at the PyCon sprint; work on Jabber
- Reid : tie location item to Google map; patching GAIM
- Alec : no plan yet but inspired by web frameworks at PyCon, may be try them to expand Chandler's webview
- Sheila : would like to write a parcel; like to write a real detailed presentation of Chandler
- Philippe : finish hCalendar parcel started at the January sprint
0.7
Alpha plan
We have a
schedule for 0.7 with 3 alpha planned till August.
We declared 0.7alpha1 at the beginning of the week and are officially starting 0.7alpha2.
There's only 6 weeks of dev time (2 of the 8 weeks are for cool down, stabilization and debug) which is only 6x4 = 24 days (we have 1 day a week of 20% self assigned). It's short though lots of things can be done in that time. Be careful not to overcommit when SWAGging though. Better to under promise and over deliver than the contrary.
We started to review the bug load and started to segregate stuff in 0.7alpha2 in Bugzilla. We need to complete that by next meeting next week.
Philippe created a table of 0.7 dev stages per person. Please review it, comment and discuss with Philippe.
Sheila posted and will be posting specs in SVN. Please comment them asap. We should also have a review so that we make sure the tasks and specs match. Sheila to call for the reviews beginning of next week, Philippe will be taking notes at those meetings and post them on the design and dev lists.
Bugs and Tasks
The
curves need to be reworked to identify separately 0.7alpha2 and 0.7 general bug trend. Philippe to work on that.
- tasks : again, time to enter them in Bugzilla for 0.7alpha2
- bugs : please SWAG them and assign them to the various alpha
- component ownership : we converged on that this week, to be implemented by Heikki in Bugzilla asap
Misc
PyCon
Please read reports by Jeffrey, PJE, Alec, John and Ted.
Contact parcel was very cool. A great start for contact management in Chandler. Amazing that someone with no prior knowledge of Chandler was able to code something like that so fast. Very positive.
Quite a bit of wxPython interest. Not sprint though. Robin mentioned that nothing as in person sprint has been ever done for wxPython, only IRC types session. Philippe mentions proposing this at
EuroPython? this year since it's in Europe (where most wx folks are) and next door to Stefan (Geneva). Philippe to talk to Stefan about this.
John : was his first PyCon, found it more interesting than OSCON.
GeekTalk?
Any taker for Monday? What about a 'User defined collection' following up on Alec's email on the Design list?
Jeffrey proposed a session on "How should DnD work?" and accepted the challenge of being the first
GeekTalk? host.
Jeffrey to host this Monday 2pm. Philippe to help figuring out the infrastructure (VNC recording, note taking room, send email).
20% Self Assigned Project
The dead line for the plan is now. Philippe created a plan with Katie, under review by management, will be presented next week.
Sheila on Mellon foundation conference
Gave a demo of Chandler. Lots of talk on Semantic Web and RDF.
Some strong concerns on privacy and security expressed by one person.
People
Reviews
Reminder : peer reviews, self review and manager review due end of next week.
How long to spend per review? 1 hour per review seems reasonable.
Interns
See
plan. Plenty of resumes pouring in. Philippe driving that.
Status
Alec
- PyCon most of the week
- fixed a few minical bugs that I caused in the C++/Python conversion
- Added more PyICU? support in the minical
- Helped fix the RunPython?.bat script for 0.6.2
Bryan
Jed
Jeffrey
- All PyCon, all the time
- Worked on Subzilla, a helper to post a subersion diff to Bugzilla from the command line
- Updated ICalendar to use new vobject API
John
- Attended PyCon and sent trip report to dev.
- New bugs are piling up that break the functional tests faster than I can fix them.
David
- PTO this week skiing in Austria
Philippe
- Worked on summer interns recruiting (read resume, reviewed sample code, contact people, phone interviews, etc...)
- Identified 0.7alpha2 short list for most devs, spent an inordinate amount of time in Bugzilla
- Reorganized the Apps team Wiki page
- Looked again into UI framework news (received some emails on the subject and seen some action in XUL, wx and others)
Reid
- A less than fully productive week, to be quite honest
- Got further with MultiBitmapButton
- want to put this into an svn sandbox
- let Mimi and others try it out and see what they think
- Learning more about Python
- converting some old Perl scripts over to Python made for a very good education
Robin
- STILL preparing for a wxPython 2.6.3 release. (wxWidgets release has been delayed.)
- Ongoing support of community and problem resolution.
- Final reviews and edits, and now wxPython In Action has been sent to the Printer.
- Several wxWidgets and wxPython bugs tracked down and fixed.
