    • Potential big features
      • Better calendar
      • e-mail
      • Dashboard
    • No visibility on the framework / platform issues yet

Schedule

Moving forward on m5. m5 is in 2 weeks from now (8/24).

Not much progress last week because of OSCon and vacation for others.

Everybody seems on track though Jed and John are the most loaded right now.

How's the set, merge hell, etc... going? Outlook for m5? John

  • Having quite a bit of issues with merge and collision
  • Merging daily into the branch
  • Getting help from Morgen and Alec on a topical basic
  • The branch does not currently launch! No issue with the repository right now.
  • We will delay m5 as long as this thing is not in
  • Issue
  • notification will certainly have lingering problems after m5
  • Who's blocked in the Apps team? Alec (Trash and Deletion)
  • Who can help? Alec, already working on it since last week. Helping on merging the 5 types of collection. Refactoring code.
  • Who's contributing to this branch right now? Andi and Ted done except for bugs on code that has not been exercised.
  • Still issues on the design (5 different types of collection, non mutable). Morgen helping. Alec will also.

Engineering Issues

  • PJE work : Purge, Flattening. Comments? No, widely discussed. Everybody cool with this.
  • CPIA XML : Now that we don't have parcel XML, we will use a declarative XML for blocks and events. Alec will post something on the Dev list.
  • wxWidgets : 2.6.2 delayed about a week. What about auto merges? Could be, David to check into this.

People

Interns : Prepare for Thursday demo/presentation. Dry run Thursday morning.

OSCon Report

Attendance: 2400 people, bigger than last year.

Go check the various blogs and reports (Philippe, Ted, BCM). Please add yours for all to enjoy.

Take away from the Apps team :

  • Philippe : Open Source is maturing into a reality with a business model (see SugarCRM). The application space is still largely unoccupy but that's coming. XUL is nice but no silver bullet. Lots of interest in calendaring (CalDAV, iCalendar). Resource scheduling is the killer app.
  • Jed : Python can be a mindshift, very eye opening talks on Python.
  • Bryan : great talk from the Head First author Kathy Sierra (see her blog).
  • John : interesting talks on other things than programming. Not a lot of direct interest to Chandler.
